The transport system in Morocco has its own rules. Uber does not exist, taxis are divided into two colors (and two very distinct functions), and buses can be chaotic for the uninitiated. Once you understand how "Petit" and "Grand" taxis work, getting around in Agadir becomes incredibly cheap and easy.
Petit Taxis (For the city center)
In Agadir, Petit Taxis are painted red (they are orange in Marrakech, blue in Essaouira). They are usually Dacia Logans or Sanderos.
- Golden rule: They are only allowed to operate within the city limits of Agadir (they cannot go to the airport or Taghazout).
- Capacity: 3 passengers maximum. That is the law. If you are 4, you will have to take two Petit Taxis or a Grand Taxi.
- Fares: They run on a meter. The starting fare is ~2 MAD (3 MAD after 8 PM). An average ride costs between 10 and 20 MAD (1 to 2 €). Always ask the driver to turn on the meter. If they refuse, get out and take the next one.
- Sharing: It is common for the driver to stop and pick up other passengers on the way if the direction is the same. Everyone will pay their own metered fare.
Grand Taxis (To get out of the city)
Grand Taxis (often Dacia Lodgys or old Mercedes) are cream or yellow with a blue stripe. They are authorized to leave the city.
- Shared operation: Traditionally, they leave from fixed stations (like the Batoire station) when all 6 seats are full. You pay per seat (e.g., Agadir-Taghazout costs about 15 MAD/seat).
- Private operation ("Korsa"): You can pay for the entire taxi (all 6 seats) to leave immediately or go to a specific destination (e.g., the airport). The price is firmly negotiated before getting in (no meter).
To go from the airport to Taghazout or for intercity trips, this is the ultimate local option.
City buses (Alsa)
The Alsa company manages the city buses in Agadir. This is the cheapest way to get around (about 4 to 5 MAD a ticket, bought from the driver).
The buses are widely used by locals to go to work or the beach, so they can be crowded. The most useful lines for tourists are line 32 and line 33, which leave from central Agadir and go up the coast to Tamraght and Taghazout.
Since 2024, a special airport bus line (line L-AE) also connects the airport to the city center for 50 MAD.
Tourist transport and private drivers
Since international apps like Uber are blocked in Morocco, the only way to enjoy a "door-to-door" service with a private driver at a fixed price (without rigged meters or exhausting negotiations) is to book a Private Tourist Transport.
These vehicles (comfortable sedans or minivans) have a special license plate and are authorized to operate anywhere. This is the recommended option for your transfers from Agadir airport, or if you are a group of 4 to 8 people (who do not fit in a Petit Taxi). You must book them in advance online or through your hotel.
Car rental
If you plan to explore the region (Souss-Massa National Park, Taroudant, Taghazout, Imsouane), renting a car is by far the best option.
The roads around Agadir are in excellent condition, straight and very uncrowded compared to Casablanca or Marrakech. Parking is easy in the tourist area (parking attendants in yellow vests take care of it for 2 to 5 MAD). Expect to pay from 25 € / day for a compact car.
